NBC Local Graphics, New York City
Five month internship with the network news station in New York City
My position with NBC entailed preparing graphics for use on the NY local news broadcasts. I'd work directly with their graphics team and Al Roker to fill requests for the local weather. I would also act as a liaison between the local news department, the newscasters, UPI, and API moving files back and forth. At the time, B&W photography was significantly cheaper to license over color. I would deliver the B&W images back to the graphics department who would then colorize them on a digital Paintbox -- the precursor to the much less costly Photoshop.
I was privileged enough to be able to sit-in during the broadcasts and get a firsthand experience of what's involved in bringing a news program to life. Additionally, I occasionally sat in-for rehearsals of Saturday Night Live, David Letterman, and The CosbyShow. These experiences gave me firsthand knowledge about what's involved in producing live and pre-recorded shows for broadcast.
